A boy working with his father in the iron shop suddenly asked his father – “Father, what is the value of a man in this world?”
The father was surprised to hear such a serious question from a small child.
Then he said, “Son, it is very difficult to estimate the value of a man, he is priceless.”
Boy – Are all equally valuable and important?
Father – Yes son.
The boy did not understand anything and asked again – Then why are some poor and some rich in this world? Why is someone less respected and someone more?
Hearing the question, the father remained silent for some time and then asked the boy to bring an iron rod lying in the store room.
As soon as the rod was brought, the father asked – What will be its price?
Boy – 200 rupees.
Father – If I make many small nails from it, then what will be its price?
The boy thought for a while and said – Then it will be sold for even more, about 1000 rupees.
Father – What if I make many watch springs from this iron?
The boy kept calculating for some time and then suddenly said excitedly, “Then its value will be very high.”
Then the father explained to him, “Similarly, the value of a man does not lie in what he is now, but in what he can make of himself.” The
boy had understood what his father said.
Friends, often we make mistakes in estimating our true value. We start considering ourselves valueless by looking at our present status. But we always have immense power. Our life is always full of possibilities. Many times the situations in our life are not good but this does not reduce our value. We are born in this world as humans, which means we are very special and important. We should always keep improving ourselves and keep moving in the direction of achieving our true value.
